The original Boys & Girls Clubs music video, “Chillin’ in the Boys and Girls Club” stems from the talented and creative atmosphere of the Boys and Girls Club of South Central Texas. BGCSCT encourages their members to write songs, choreograph dance and cheer routines, rap, act, and explore artistic expressions through drawing.
The song came from an impromptu song writing moment during their summer Music Makers camp experience. As their instructor Justyn Payne was playing chords on the guitar, he asked, “What is it about the Club that you love?” Members responded saying “We love chillin’ in the Boys and Girls Club!” From basketball, soccer, and foosball games, they listed many different ways that they enjoy their Club experience. Quickly the melody spread like wild fire down the halls and members from kindergarten to high school to staff were singing “Chillin’ in the Boys and Girls Club.”
This fun, upbeat, pop reggae anthem for BGCSCT and Clubs all over the world expresses the awesome feeling it is to participate in Club activities and events. Parents and friends alike have called in to the Club to express their thanks for such a positive message and fun music that help their children grow up in a safe and productive environment. “Chillin’ in the Boys and Girls Club” is part of a creative initiative of the BGCSCT to give members more chances to record and produce their own music.
