Club alum and rock star of ballet talks about how she got started back in the day and gives career advice!
Rock star ballerina Misty Copeland leaves giant footprints in the world of ballet. But it was few tiny steps at the San Pedro (California) Boys & Girls Club that gave her a needed start and has her forever grateful.
She is a pioneer, becoming just the third African-American soloist in the history of the prestigious American Ballet Theatre. Now a member of the BGCA Alumni Hall of Fame, Misty learned to dance as a shy 13-year-old at the San Pedro BGC.
As she visited BGCA headquarters recently, she took time to answer a few questions for us. In this interview, Misty talks about her inspiration back then and even drops a little knowledge and self-help tips right out of the SMART Girls playbook!
